What is Alambrismo?
Alambrismo is the art of shaping and working wire into jewelry. In Johanny's practice, the wire becomes both the structure and the visible detail: it holds a stone, forms a pattern or builds the outline of an earring.
She began exploring the technique in 2015 and continues to develop her approach in our Florida studio. She treats fine wire as if it were thread: sewing it through a frame, braiding strands together, and using knots and macramé techniques to build patterns. Depending on the design, she also works with crochet and knitting. The wire becomes the stitches, texture and structure of the piece, with each section shaped and tensioned by hand.
The result can be an open geometric drop, a closely woven frame or a larger piece built around the individual shape of a stone.
Is it the same as wire wrapping?
Alambrismo belongs within the broader world of wirework and wire wrapping. Those terms can describe many approaches, from a few carefully placed loops to a pattern built from repeated stitches and woven strands.
Think of the relationship between calligraphy and handwriting: "All calligraphy is handwriting, but not all handwriting is calligraphy." The comparison helps explain why a broad label does not tell you everything about the technique behind a piece.
At KaZel, Johanny often works the wire like thread, building the pattern as she builds the piece. A simple wrapped design and an intricate woven one can both be beautiful; choose the detail and silhouette you want to wear.
What the detail brings to your look
Start with the effect you want near your face or against your neckline.
- An open shape lets the outline stand out. Wear a geometric drop with your hair tucked back so its shape stays visible.

What to look for when choosing wire jewelry
Look closely at the transitions: where a loop meets a frame, where a stone sits, and where a wire ends. These small areas show how a piece has been finished.
In Johanny's wirework, stones are secured by the shaped wire structure. Across a pair of earrings, repeated loops and spacing are worked by hand to create a considered match.
Then think about how the piece will sit on you. Size, weight, balance and fastening all contribute to comfort. A design can have plenty of visual detail without needing to feel heavy; use the individual product information rather than judging weight from a photograph alone.
Materials, finish and comfort
Our wirework uses polymer-coated gold-plated or silver-plated wire. The protective coating gives the wire its non-tarnish finish and helps protect the plated surface with proper care.
The wire and chain are separate components. Our gold necklaces use gold-filled chains, while our silver necklaces use sterling silver chains. Check the individual design for the exact chain details and length options.

How to care for your wirework
- Put jewelry on after perfume, lotion and hairspray, and remove it before showering, swimming or exercising.
- Clean it dry: use a soft, dry cloth for stones and pearls, and a soft, dry brush around detailed wirework. Avoid liquid cleaners, soaking, steam and ultrasonic machines.
- Store pieces separately, flat and dry, where the wirework will not be crushed or pulled.
